Following the initial statement buys Luiz Suarez and Andy Carroll to Anfield have been the likes of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stuart Downing and Jose Enrique.
That represents around a total outlay of around £120 million. Although some of that has been recouped through the departures of Fernando Torres and Raul Meireles to Stamford Bridge the message is clear. Money will be spent to bring Liverpool back to the summit of English football.
However the season has not exactly started the way in which manager Kenny Dalglish will have envisioned. With that in mind it would be no surprise to see the manager dip into the Bostonian owners pockets for some more dollars to lure a few players to Merseyside in January.
The question is who will they look to bring in? Goals have been a problem leading to some speculation that Torres could make a surprise return to Anfield to the club he once supported. Despite Anders Villas Boas protests it is clear that the Torres signing has not worked out as hoped for Chelsea but he has shown signs of resurgence this year.
With Andy Carroll oft-injured and failing to live up to his exorbitant price tag Liverpool need a striker to help take the pressure off of Luis Suarez. While it has to be considered a long shot Torres would fit the billing.
If not Torres than someone Liverpool are looking at is Admir Mehmedi. The young Zurich striker has already been watched by scouts from the club and is considered a hot prospect for the future by many.
Another area that Liverpool have looked vulnerable this season is midfield. For many years Stephen Gerrard has been the talisman for this Liverpool team providing vital goals, assists and generally being their top performer for much of the last decade.
However it would appear those days are over. Gerrard has been plagued by injuries over the last two seasons and they appear to have sapped him of some of the previously unlimited energy he brought to the pitch.
In his absence the duo of Lucas and Charlie Adam have been unspectacular if not a liability for the team. Neither are bad players but they simply do not dominate even the weaker teams in the Premiership and in particular lack the pace and agility to go box to box with any regularity.
Ross Barkley of Everton is exactly the sort of player they need and it will undoubtedly rankle with them that this Merseyside kid is dressed in Blue and therefore highly unlikely to be seen at Anfield in anything other than a Derby.
Seydou Keita of Barcelona is another that fits the bill but he seems to have ruled out a move saying he is happy at the Camp Nou.
Liverpool have also been linked to Dortmund’s Shinji Kawaja who is also on the radar of Man United and Arsenal although he is more of a playmaker in the Luka Modric mould.
With the likes of Downing and Henderson joining the team in August, the Reds would appear to be set on the flanks.
But Downing has been at times disappointing and has failed to score or register an assist this season.
One player who has made a big impact in the Premier League this year has been Swansea winger Nathan Dyer who had another exceptional game against champions Man United at the weekend.
Given his performance it is likely that the big boys will come looking for Dyer before long so Liverpool may have to get into a bidding war for his services.
Defence has certainly not been an issue for Liverpool this season. They boast the best defensive record along with league leaders Man City having conceded just 11 goals.
However much like with Gerrard Liverpool will eventually have to replace Jamie Carragher and with Gary Cahill seemingly available and ready to leave Bolton for around £7 million it would seem like the perfect opportunity to add another quality defender to the mix.
Regardless Liverpool will need to add to their squad if they hope to force their way into the top four and qualify for the Champions League and receive all of the lucrative benefits that come from qualification.
