Dalglish ponders bid for Porto's £17m Fernando after Lucas injury blow

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Porto's defensive midfielder Fernando Reges.
Manager Kenny Dalglish will be given funds to strengthen his squad in January and the knee ligament injury suffered by Lucas Leiva means defensive
midfield has become a priority.
The 24-year-old Reges, known as Fernando, is widely recognised as one of the best players in his position and is also on the list of transfer targets of his former manager, Chelsea's Andre Villas Boas.

The Brazilian is valued at around £17m but that is still within Liverpool's reach. They have studied other players such as Celtic's Beram Kayal but sent scouts to watch Fernando on Tuesday as Porto drew 0-0 with Zenit St Petersburg and went out of the Champions League.
Liverpool also want to bring in a striker and may yet look at a right winger and another centre back depending on what is available and at what price.
